100+ Years of Harley-Davidson

100+ Years of Harley-Davidson

The story of Harley-Davidson is a classic example of starting from the bottom and beating all odds to become a success. The company started its journey in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a simple engine drawing put down on paper by its founder, William S. Harley, in the early 1900s. He then worked with Walter Davidson and Arthur Davidson to make the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle in 1903. The bike, however, had difficulty moving in hilly areas. This pushed them to make an improved, racer version in 1904, which later become 4th in a 15-mile race held in Chicago. H-D then hired its first full-time employee in 1905 and also sold 3 of their 5 motorcycles through their first dealer, C. H. Lang, in Chicago. In 1906, the company expanded and moved to its first factory on Chestnut St. in Milwaukie. It also increased production to 150…

Frequent rests will help you stay energized and focused on the road. Practice with Shorter Trips Longer trips on a motorcycle are more difficult, so it’s a good idea to work your way up to a big summer road trip. You can practice with shorter trips in the months or weeks leading…

Riding a motorcycle is exciting, but it also demands a great amount of focus. You make hundreds of judgement calls on every ride you take. When doing so, it is always important to remain self-aware. Here are three ways to remain cognizant of your surroundings every time you ride:  1. Know Your Limits Being aware of your limits is crucial to staying safe and making good decisions when riding. These limits may impact how far you ride or the types of conditions you go out in. As you gain more experience with your bike, your limitations will decrease, but be careful not to push yourself to do too much too quickly, as this can put you in a dangerous situation. This is a particular concern for newer riders. It is easy to lose sight of your own limitations once you have a few miles…

A few simple hand gestures are all it takes to indicate when you are turning, stopping, speeding up, or changing lanes. Why Are Hand Signals Important?
