On April 17th and April 18th, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Traffic Bureau competed in the 19th Annual Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition.
This annual competition rotates between Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Tucson. This year the event was held in Phoenix, Arizona, and it was aimed at benefiting the Special Olympics Arizona.
There were 132 officers competing from over 20 different police agencies across the United States. The event drew a crowd of more than 1000 spectators. The LVMPD sent 7 officers that competed in the four events: individual, 4 man team, slow ride, and pair ride.
LVMPD officers took honors for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the individual course. In the 4 man team event the LVMPD took 1st place. In the pair ride the LVMPD took 1st and 3rd place. In the slow ride the LVMPD took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
With the support of the community, sponsors and officers, approximately $30,000 was raised for Special Olympics Arizona.
